Stolen Hellcat Recovered After High-Speed Chase Thanks to CarLock Tracking

Most car thefts happen often in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep. That’s exactly what happened to Theodore, a proud owner of a 2022 Charger Hellcat Widebody. While he was sleeping, two thieves were already breaking into his car outside. What they didn’t know was that the vehicle was protected by CarLock.

And within minutes, the system would alert Theodore that something was very wrong.

“Hellcats are known to be targets,” Theodore explained. Before purchasing the system, he had one main concern: “Would it work as advertised?”

He got the answer early in the morning at 2:01 AM, when his phone suddenly went off with a CarLock alert. At first, he thought it might not be so serious. “I awoke and thought perhaps someone bumped the car”, he described his first reaction.

But as he started getting dressed, another alert appeared—his car alarm notification, followed shortly by a “car moved” notification.

That’s when he realized something was very wrong.

Two thieves had broken into his Hellcat, hot-wired the vehicle, and even hack-sawed the steering wheel to remove the lock. They also cut through the front wheel lock before driving off.

Tracking the Hellcat in Real Time

The thieves sped onto the 110 freeway, pushing the powerful Hellcat to extreme speeds.

“As my car accelerated onto the 110 freeway and got up to 120 mph, I was tracking it on my CarLock wired GPS locator.”

Theodore immediately contacted law enforcement. With two phones in hand, he was speaking with CHP on one line and LAPD on the other, providing real-time location updates from CarLock.

He also warned officers: “I told them the car is modified and brutally fast.”

At one point, the thieves stopped in a Food for Less parking lot near LAX. There, they discovered and removed one of the GPS trackers hidden in the car and tossed it away.

What they didn’t know was that CarLock was still tracking them. Theodore mentioned: “People said I was paranoid having two trackers, but I’m glad I did.”

The Chase and Arrest

Thinking they were safe, the thieves jumped back onto the freeway and pushed the Hellcat to speeds of 134 mph.

Meanwhile, Theodore continued feeding live speed and location updates from CarLock to police.

Within minutes, officers began closing in. A CHP helicopter soon picked up the vehicle, and a pursuit involving two CHP units and three LAPD cruisers followed.

The suspects eventually exited the freeway, abandoned the Hellcat rolling in neutral, and tried to run into a nearby airport hotel.

They didn’t get far.

LAPD officers quickly tackled both suspects, and the car was recovered.

Not only would the car have been gone, but so would his upgrades: “All the modifications on my Hellcat — about $15,000 — would have gone down the drain.”
