Three Steps to Improve Your CarLock Experience
The CarLock device is designed to be easily installed through the OBD connector (diagnostics connector) without using any tools or having to deal with the car’s electrical system. All you need to do is find the connector in your car (or ask us for assistance) and plug in the device.
Since every car manufacturer has a different philosophy when placing the OBD connector into the car, the plugged in CarLock device could be overexposed, facing upward, facing downward, or even obstructing the pedals. To ensure the optimal performance, we suggest you follow these three simple steps to improve your CarLock experience.
1. Use the CarLock’s OBD Extension Cable
If you notice that the CarLock device is sticking out of the dashboard too much, or obstructing the pedals, the simplest way to solve this is by using the OBD Extension Cable. This way, you can move the device away from the critical area so that it doesn’t disturb you while driving. Read more about the OBD Extension Cable here.
The CarLock OBD Extension Cable can be ordered through Amazon or bought in a bundle with the CarLock device.
2. Be Aware of How the Device Is Positioned
If you are experiencing long notification delays, there is a chance this is caused simply because the device is facing downward or it is even obstructed by the metal parts of the car, and the GPS/GSM signal is not strong enough.
To ensure the maximum signal strength, the device should be placed such that the CarLock sticker is facing upward and the device has a clear view of the skies. This is especially recommended if the OBD connector is located under the dashboard.
While it is impossible to avoid the metal parts in the car, and this is fine, please make sure the device is not covered or placed directly under any metal parts.
(Please, note that some delay in the notification delivery is expected since the wireless technology has its limitations.)
3. Firmly Attach the CarLock Device
When installing the device with the use of the extension cable, make sure it is firmly fixed to the car. The sensors inside the device are highly sensitive and if the CarLock device is moving freely around, the system cannot differentiate stronger vibrations from the usual ones.
If the device is firmly fixed to the car, the sensors get a clear reading of the vibrations resonating through the car’s frame and other structural parts of the car. When the device is not mounted into the car’s OBD connector or firmly fixed to the car using the cable, the vibrations on the car’s frame, caused, for example, by the door of the car being closed, cannot be detected as the vibrations are not transferred to the device sensors clearly and effectively.
We believe that by following this three simple steps, you will greatly improve your CarLock experience.
So use the extension cable when necessary, face the sticker up, making sure it has a clear view of the sky and fix it firmly to the car.
However, if you are still experiencing high notification delays, we are here to assist you.
We also advise you to test the time difference between getting the standard push notifications and SMS backup notifications. There is a chance the delay is a result of the slow push notification delivery. To learn more about SMS backup notifications, go to the CarLock app and open Settings.
