How-To

A Step-by-Step Guide to Installing the OBD CarLock Device

Connecting a plug-and-play GPS device like CarLock is very simple. All you need to do is to find out the location of the onboard diagnostics (OBD II) connector in your car and plug in your device. No tools are required.

  1. The location of the OBD II connector varies depending on the manufacturer and model of your car, but it is generally situated near the driver’s knees. If you are uncertain about the position of the OBD II connector in your vehicle, you can refer to the car’s manual or fill out the “Will It Work With My Car?” form available on our homepage to locate it with ease.

If your vehicle was manufactured after 1996, it will have the standard OBD connector already built-in. However, if your car was manufactured before this time, you can install the CarLock OBD device by utilizing the power adapter cable to your car’s power with the wires underneath the dashboard

CarLock’s cables provide a hassle-free solution for those who prefer to conceal their car tracker, making it difficult to spot or remove. In some vehicles, the OBD connector may be inconveniently placed too close to the pedals, causing discomfort while driving. The use of cables can also help relocate the device elsewhere in case the OBD connector cover cannot be closed.

In addition to utilizing the CarLock power adapter cable, you also have the option of selecting either an extension cable or a splitter cable.

The Splitter cable consists of two separate parts: one for charging and the other for data transmission. It’s important to ensure that the device is positioned on the charging component, as the other part is reserved for mechanics to access diagnostic data.

Whether you install the device with cables or plug it directly into the OBD2 port, all CarLock features function seamlessly. The only factor that affects the features available to you is the subscription plan you opt for.

2. GPS LOCATION AVAILABILITY AFTER INITIAL DEVICE INSTALLATION

After the device is firmly installed in your vehicle, go for a drive to get a valid GPS location.

Please keep in mind that the GPS location of your vehicle will not be immediately available after the device is connected. The setup process typically takes less than 5 minutes, but in some cases, it may take up to 24 hours for the device to connect to GPS satellites. To ensure the device has sufficient time to connect, we recommend plugging it in overnight and taking a drive the next day. 3. LEARNING MODE IN THE INITIAL DAYS OF USE

CarLock push notifications only work when you are logged into the CarLock phone app. If you experience any delays in receiving location tracking or notifications during the first few days after installing the device, there is no need to worry as this is typical behavior. The CarLock device requires a few days to scan all available networks, recalibrate sensors, and learn your vehicle’s behavior when starting the engine.
